Why it is called Apollo 8
Omega named this Dark Side of the Moon after the Apollo 8 mission of December 1968, the first crewed flight to orbit the Moon. Reference 311.92.44.30.01.001 is also the only Dark Side reference in our shop with 30 in the fourth group; the others carry 51, Omega’s code for a self-winding chronograph.
Winding by hand
The shop’s movement guide names ST19, a manual-wind type, as the base of our Speedmaster chronographs, running 42-48 hours on a full wind. That makes winding part of the morning routine: a few turns of the crown each day, and 20-30 turns if it has been off the wrist for a couple of days.
Ceramic and size
The ceramic Dark Side models are 44.25 mm, which our size guide places with wrists over 19 cm. On a smaller wrist, the Moonwatch Professional 310.30.42.50.04.001 is Omega’s 42 mm hand-wound alternative.
Water and handling
Wet hands and rain are fine. Keep it out of the pool, and take it off before the shower. A ceramic case can chip on a hard knock, so keep it clear of tools and gym weights.
From order to delivery
Before dispatch we film the watch you will receive and wait for your approval. It then travels free and tracked with DHL or FedEx, usually 12-16 business days to the US, the UK or Europe. The Omega box is not part of the order unless you add the box and papers set.
